Mega earthquake will likely strike Japan again soon – here’s how they’re going to do

Japan’s preparations for a probable massive earthquake soon - Japan, a hot bed of seismic activity, with around 1500 earthquakes striking the country annually, is sitting over four large tectonic plates. Some earthquakes prove disastrous, such as the 2011 earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tōhoku, which triggered a catastrophic tsunami taking 15,000 lives, while many pass without major incidents. This death toll may seem relatively less, compared to the loss, if a massive earthquake, as experts say has a 70 percent of chance of striking Tokyo in the next 30 years, ever comes to pass. Japan’s national psyche is shaped by the ubiquitous earthquakes and the disquieting threats they pose, as concluded by U.S Director Garrett Bradley in his documentary ‘The Earth is Humming’. His short documentary also covers visits with seismologists, disaster prevention centres and survival supply shops, exploring the consequences when an orderly culture is challenged with a persistent high risk, which can be mitigated but can never be avoided.
